Japanese Whiskey History:
Japanese whiskey's history dates back to the early 20th century, with the opening of the country's first commercial distillery, Yamazaki, in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii. The industry was further developed by Masataka Taketsuru, who learned about whiskey production in Scotland and later founded the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido. Japanese whiskey initially emulated Scotch whisky styles but eventually developed its own distinct character.
